In Hastings & St Leonards, many of our roads have been merged and names changed throughout history, together with roads completely disappearing. This category serves two purposes; to provide an A-Z index of the roads in Hastings and to track changes to roads, their naming and numbering etc. To this end, there are a number of pages beginning with a year. These are verbatim quotations from contemporary reporting on council meetings about road name changes/renumbering etc. It is interesting to note in passing that road name plates commenced use in this town in 1876 - prior to that the names were painted onto suitable properties at junctions.
