Commercial Road was originally the name of the lower portion of the High Street bordering on East Street and West Street. Leigh Kennedy wrote in the Facebook Group "Historical Hastings" during 2022:-
The area where the Fishmarket once stood, surrounded on three sides by buildings, was once known as Commercial Road. There were never more than half a dozen buildings in the road - and the name itself was dropped over 80 years ago. The buildings were absorbed into other street addresses including the High Street, East Street and East Beach Street.
