Manor Road, like its partner St. Mary's Road on the Mount Pleasant Estate was constructed between 1873 and 1899; mapping from 1883 shows only a few properties towards the middle of the road.

The road was possibly named after the 'Manor House' which was built on St Mary's Terrace a few years prior to the construction of the road, Manor House being built circa 1870.

In June 1884, an advertisement for the rental of what was described as " suitable for carrying on Large Bread Business, having Bakehouse, Stabling accomodation, with cottage above. These premises could be used for Fly Proprietor's business with 4-stall stabling. coach-house, and large yard, with good supply of water."[1]
