Much of Winding Street was lost as part of the 1930 Slum Clearances. Numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4, Nos 7 to 15 inclusive including No 11a, Nos 17 and 18, Phoenix Hall and Nos 20, 21, 22 and 23 being specifically listed as due for demolition. A surviving portion of the Town Wall remains in Winding Street.
