W. J. Hart

From Historical Hastings

Hart's first garage was in Western Road during the late 1950s. At the time, it was called the Adelphi Garage but later changed its name to W.J Hart & Son. This garage was owned and run by William Hart and his son Russell Hart. On William's retirement, Russell took over and expanded the business to take on larger premises in Havenhurst Mill and one of the very first UK based VW main agents; the business trading as W. J. Hart Motors Ltd and developing the frontage of the site into a car showroom[1].

Harts traded from this site selling new and used VW Beetles, Type 2 kombi vans for over 20 years, brining his son Ray Hart into the business and taught him the business, being involved with running the garage until 1971 when Russell died and it was decided to sell the business. Ray Hart Car Sales, traded on the junction of Bohemia Road and Cornfield Terrace from 1976, selling used vehicles.
