Union Street (Hastings)
Construction
Adopted1848

Union Street came into being when one of the Hastings Commissioners, Mr. Charles J. Womersley, offered to sell some property to the town in 1848 to facilitate the connection of Courthouse street and Bourne street with All Saints’ street. The purchase price of £375 for the aforementioned property, together with a price for purchasing a neighbouring property for £259 - a total of £534 which was partly defrayed by selling off materials salvaged from the properties and subscriptions from neighbouring properties leaving a balance of £400 which was taken out as a loan[1]
