Cambridge Road

During 1974, Sainsbury's constructed a new store on the old cinema site in Cambridge Road, this becoming the site of a quite horrific accident in 1987 in which a skip lorry 'ran away' and crashed into the front of the store injuring a child who was waiting outside for his parent. The premises were taken over by the Co-Op Supermarket chain by December 1993 and ESK then took over ownership of the shop[1].

Hollington Superstore

In 1992/1993, a new superstore was constructed off Sedlescombe Road North (on what had been allotment gardens between 1929 and 1955[2]) during the 1980s with a new spur road - John Macadam Way - to service both the store and a McDonalds restaurant[3]. The area was partially levelled with spoil from the Harrow Bridge works and adjoining road construction during the 1980s[2].
