The Royal Blue
The below poem appeared as an advertisement for Brett's stationery, drapery and book-selling business.
The Royal Blue.[edit]
There's a house of renown in St. Leonards nice town,
Which all are invited to view,
It's T. Brett's abode, 28, Norman Road,
And is known as the House Royal Blue.
It is there you may find many things to your mind—
Now believe what I say to be true!
That of goods sold elsewhere, very few can compare
With those at the house Royal Blue.
Of new books to read in, this shop takes the lead in
And those who dry study pursue,
May get (thought sublime!) in the shortest of time,
Good aids at the house Royal Blue
The best kinds of papers, pens, ink, wax and wafers,
Account books and pocket books too,
With Slates, sponge, and pencils, and other utensils,
Are sold at the house Royal Blue.
Besides what I've nam'd, this house is much fam'd
For drapery goods not a few;
In which its low prices each person surprises,
Who visits the house Royal Blue.
Rich ribbons, prime dresses — but as the time presses,
My rhyming I fain would get through,
So haste I to tell that men-folk as well,
Are supplied at the house Royal Blue.
Iftrousers, or vest, or a coat of the best,
Or a hat, or a cap, boot, or shoe-
Is wanted off-hand, not a house in the land,
Can beat the one painted true blue.
What else need I say for t'would take me a day
The whole of the stock to go through;
So let it suffice that you take my advice,
And buy at the house Royal Blue.
