Silverhill Farm

From Historical Hastings

Silver Hill Farm (also known for a period in the C18th as High Ridge Farm, but doubtless renamed to avoid confusion), enclosed Old Roar as part of its holdings. The farm was mentioned by an 1825 deed whereby the farm was transferred from William Lucas Shadwell to Henry Jackson. The farm is also shown on Diplock's 1827 map. Subsequently, the farm was purchased by Sir Howard Elphinstone with John Standen as a tenant in 1836, then sold to Francis Smith in 1842 and by Smith's trustees to George Clement in 1859. The farm then became enfranchised by the Duke of Cleveland in 1864[1].
