RX 53

From Historical Hastings

The Dorothy Melinda, RX 53 (one of very few timber-built fishing boats remaining) featured as the mascot on the roundabout on Hastings Railway Station's forecourt following the rebuild of the station plaza. Unfortunately, the vessel suffered damage due to weathering and became dangerous, requiring a large amount of maintenance to keep it in situ. Whilst a community fund-raiser was organised, this was not able to reach its goals by the termination of a lease of the roundabout. As a result, in 2024, the Council took the decision to scrap the vessel upon the expiry of the council's lease of the roundabout from the railway company.
