Pulpit Gate is a house in a prominent location on the west side of All Saints Street. It takes its name from the Pulpit Gate (or "New Gate"), one of three gates in the Town Wall, which was situated nearby at the bottom of the street. The house is sited on what for over 100 years was known as "Tom White's Corner" - so named for a grocer's shop which traded from the site[1].
The building is a mock-Medieval construction built in the 1950s, utilising reclaimed timbers - many of which were sourced from the large-scale demolitions occurring in the old town in the preceding years.
