Prince Albert Inn

From Historical Hastings

Located in Rock-a-Nore Road, this pub was built in 1789, becoming the Forester's Arms in 1847, then the Prince Albert in 1852.

The Winkle Club was formed here in 1899. It closed as a pub in 1953[1] and is now the Mermaid Restaurant

The ledger of Stone Beach leases maintained by Hastings Borough Council at that time has the following:-

18th October 1851 lessee Wastel Brisco of Bohemia Hastings Esquire term 31 years from 29 September last rent 20 shillings yearly

Premises etcetera

All that ground or stone beach containing from east to west 9 feet 9 inches and from north to south 7 feet 7 inches situated on the south side of a stable under a terrace in front of the Foresters Arms Inn formerly called Lavender House in All Saints in Hastings and abut on the north and west sides to the property of the said Wastel Brisco and on the south and east sides to the stone beach as on plan and coloured pink as an accommodation to the said house of the said Wastel Brisco. Proviso in reentry or non payment of rent after 21 days etc[2].
