From Historical Hastings

This newspaper started out circa 1859 under the masthead of "The Osborne's Directory" carrying mainly a visitor's list and advertising.

The paper was taken over by James Dorman following his acquisition of the Royal Victoria Library around 1867 - changing its name, still with very little news and bore the below masthead until around 1906.

The paper then gradually shifted focus, to include more local news until the 1910 masthead appeared as below in an edition carrying the headline "Lord Mayor's Visit".

By 1914, the masthead had changed yet again to feature an image of the Town Centre and seafront.
