Completed circa 1848 for Mr. W. D. Lucas-Shadwell. The building was designed by Mr. J. Cooke of Carlton Chambers in the Tudor style of architecture[1].

In 1922, Mr. Edward Festus Kelly purchased Fairlight Hall. Kelly's grandfather, Frederick Festus Kelly was the founder of Kelly's Directories in 1836. Edward resided at Fairlight Hall until around 1926, when Sir James Roberts took ownership. Another connection to Hastings of the Kelly family is that Rose Edith Kelly, the granddaughter of Frederick Festus Kelly. She was married to Aleister Crowley from 1903 to 1909. Crowley would later spend his final days at Netherwood, The Ridge.
