Edwin Bradnam (1843-1921)

From Historical Hastings

Edwin Bradnam
Born1843
Died1921

Edwin was a pawnbroker, taking over the premises of Henry John Flinn (a pawnbroker, jeweller and general outfitters) at 23 George Street in 1868 and constructing an extension to the rear (in Russell Court), connecting the two buildings by a ground floor doorway[1].

Edwin Bradnam rose to prominence and served as Mayor of Hastings on three separate occasions (1884/1885/1890), he sadly passed away aged 78 after a fall from a moving tram at the Memorial. By the late 1880s Henry Bradnam Wright had taken over the pawnbroker business and it is his name that is visible over the shopfront over 140 years later.
