Edward Capel (also spelled Capell) was a resident in East Cliff House which he had built in about 1761 when he was aged 48 for the cost of nearly £5,000 at the foot of All Saints Street. He held the official title of Censor of Plays, and was reputed to have copied out all of Shakespeare's works ten times. In the later years of his life, he became a recluse, only going out to visit the Earl of Ashburnham at Broomham or dining with the Milward Family.[1]
