From Historical Hastings
(Redirected from Clive Vale)

Summary[edit]

It is suggested that the naming of Clive Vale is a corruption of Cliff Vale after a field so named on the 1750 map of the Collier estate.[1] Place Names of Sussex [2] would tend to confirm this, although Cousins in his "Hastings of Bygone Days and the Present" states that according to a property conveyance in 1544:- "James Hobson was the purchaser of the Cliffs Lands (now Clive Vale)"[3].
