Central Garage

From Historical Hastings

This garage was located in St. Andrew's Mews between its founding in the early 1900s until the mid-1970s, with the entrance being at 1 Waldegrave Street. The founder (Mr. Albert Small) was also Managing Director of the Griffin Woodcock & Co Ltd bottled water company of both Hastings and Hawkhurst. Albert was the pioneer of charabanc tours around the south-east (this possibly explaining the founding of the garage). Planning applications reveal that in 1961, three petrol pumps were installed at the entrance.
