Located next to the Dripping Well at 57 Cambridge Road, this hotel was under the proprietorship of Dennis Coppard and his wife in 1911[1].
The premises suffered a fire on the 6th of August 1927; the proprietor at the time, James Bargent wrote in to the Observer thanking the Fire Brigade for their prompt attendance and singled out an employee of the paper, Percy Hadaway who assisted in extinguishing the fire with two fire extinguishers[2].
By 1986, the premises were trading as the 'Tavern in the Town'[3], then the 'Union Bar' and 'Tubman' prior to closure.
The top storey of the building was removed in 1992, leaving the two storey building present today. At this time, it was a Whitbread tied-house[4].
Following the closure of the pub, planning permission was granted to convert the premises into three self-contained flats in 2019[5].
