Born to a German musician Hermann Apel who moved into 3 Dorset Place at some point prior to 1871[1], Albert Apel was a newsagent with premises in Robertson Street. Married to a Milliner, Clara Flint in 1865, he later wrote a retrospective for the Hastings & St. Leonards Observer in 1936 looking back over the previous 60 years.
They were resident at 1 Linton Crescent in 1901[2], moving to 7 Linton Road in 1911[3]
