This template should not be necessary any longer. Performing an #ask with |link=none will return the pagename in plain text form. This template is kept for esoteric uses.

Purpose

Given a page property, this displays a link to the page with a shorter form.

This automates conversions to a form like:

• [[La Salle county, Texas | La Salle county]].
• [[Obama (surname) | Obama]]

Syntax

Type or paste {{shortlink}}

Behavior

if null operand, return nothing

if redlink or no short name property then

• prune to left of first paren or first comma

if shortname, use this as left hand side of link prune to just after the vertical bar.
