eight or nine different characters and costumes, with songs and dances. There were also the wonderful pipings of Piccis, the singing of Mr. William Tomlin, the violin solos of Senor Oivierian, and the pianoforte performances of Mons. Rignol.
Professor Frickell held his seance in the same room on the 20th of October, and quite astonished his audience by his marvelous dexterity. His tricks in legerdemain were so novel and so almost entirely without the usual paraphernalia, as to bbeget for him the title of the Prince of Conjurors. As a musician, the present writer has been engaged to play for several persons of that profession, but Herr Frikell appeared to him to be the cleverest of any, in the professed art of deception. The announcement of his coming on that occasion appeared in the St. Leonards Gazette, as follows:- "The king of Conjurors, than whom there's none
Can cause a company more constant fun,
Will be at Hastings as a magic sprite
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, each night.
His wondrous action all the world astounds
The while his vocals utter humorous sounds;
There's none more greatly can your senses tickle!
Then go out and see and hear the famous Frickell!"
The same professor of magic and mystery continued to visit Hastings and St. Leonards occasionally; and, twelve years after the above named date, the St. Leonards Gazette again indulged in its own way of reporting the event, the use of which report by the conjuror at his earnest request was afterwards readily granted. It was thus:-"Herr Adalbert Frikell (son of the world-famed Wiljacha Frikell) who, with the smallest amount of apparatus, performs the cleverest of feats in legerdemain, has been starring it at the Music Hall, Hastings, during three days of the past week, and has further delighted his numerous patrons by introducing to them a charming prima donna in the person of Mlls Mina Laporte. This lady's cultivated voice, attractive appearance and graceful manner, have evoked a recall on every occasion; whilst the piano forte accompaniments have been finely executed by Herr Frikell himself. The surprising deceptions of the great conjuror irresistibly impel us to the following impromptu:-
