Mr. G. Wooll's Trade Card 1823.
This is a specimen of an elaborate trade card commonly used by business men in the early and middle part of the last century.
This one is reproduced from the original size 8 inches (20 cm) by 5 inches (13 cm). It is given here, firstly, for its novelty, and secondly, by reason of G. Wooll's name frequently occurring in this book. He was a print seller, and published many views of Hastings, and interesting guide book, mentioned on page 135, and his name is well-known to collectors. He first opened business at No. 5, High Street, and afterwards at 43, High Street (now Reeves' antique furniture shop). The inscription is represented on the "Minnis Rock," which still exists at the top of the path leading to High Wickham, and shewing All Saints' Church, the slopes of High Wickham, Old London Road, High Street, and the Old Town, including St. Clement's Church, the Castle Hill, and the sea with shipping in the distance.
