The Clarence Hotel in Silverhill sustained bomb damage to the frontage during the Second World War, leading to the half-glazed front elevation onto London Road being replaced by the present-day muntin-framed small pane glazing in 1955[1].
There were further plans submitted in 2015 to convert the accommodation in the upper floor and lower-ground floor into bed and breakfast accommodation, however this was refused[2].
