William Duke was a doctor of Hastings who was born in Bexhill. He married twice, first to Jane Worge (1777-1813)[1], having five children; George, Elizabeth, William, Jane and Thomas. Following the death of Jane, he remarried to Sarah Batty and had a further three children; Sarah, Roger and Robert. He was Mayor twice; in 1837 and again in 1841.
His son William, followed in his father's footsteps becoming a doctor and George became a barrister[2]
