Constructed circa 1873, this drill hall was one of a number around the town constructed at the same time.
It is recorded that there was a 40 pounder 'Armstrong' gun stationed here in May 1873.[1]
The hall was occupied by the 230th (Sussex) Field Battery of the 58th (H.C.) Field Brigade of the Royal Artillery Territorial Army during at least the 1920s Unknown date[2]
