Sir Howard Warburton Elphinstone (1830–1917)

From Historical Hastings

Sir Howard Warburton Elphinstone inherited many lands in and around Hastings, although it is uncertain whether he actually visited the town, being resident in London. The third baronet Elphinstone, worked as a barrister and became a JP for Sussex in 1859. He married Constance Mary Alexander, a daughter of John Alexander Hankey of Balcombe Place on 4 August 1860. His eldest son, Howard John (1862-1895) married Katherine, a daughter of Herbert Mascall Curteis of Windmill Hill Place at Wartling on 22 October 1889, and saw military service in Egypt and India. Howard John died on 2 February 1895 at Ticehurst House, a private asylum; his photographic collection is held by The Keep[1].
