The Silverhill Lecture Hall opened during December 1870[1], having been constructed by Mr Livermore. The building measured 25ft in width and 50ft in length. It opened as a lecture hall and continued in that purpose until the early 1890s, other than a brief period between 1876 and 1879 when the Silverhill School occupied it whilst waiting for the school buildings to be completed. Post-1890, it was taken over by the Salvation Army who added a structure to the open space in front of the building destroying the 'Gothick' entrance arch and iron railings. It met a sudden and irrevocable demise on the 11th of March 1943 due to a German Air Raid[2].
