Located in Grange Road, this substantial property, named after the fact there was a quarry covered by woodland on its site was constructed between 1872 and 1897, most likely around 1887[1].

The first occupiers would appear to have been Mr. & Mrs. John D. Murray[1]. Originally from Middlesex, forty year old John was listed as being an architect and surveyor on the 1891 Census, and the family had three daughters and a son. The Murrays were obviously fairly well off; the same Census return listing them employing a Governess and four servants[2]

In the 1960s, it was variously planned to be used by the "Home for Elderly Vegetarians"[3] and as a school for children with cognitive disabilities[4], before settling into a role as an old people's home[5]. The property was then converted into ten flats around 2010 with the development creating a further twelve flats by means of a linked building and additional storey being added[6].
