The first dog show in the borough is recorded in the Hastings Observer as being promoted by the newly formed canine society on the 29th of April 1903[1]. This show appears to have been held in the Central Cricket Ground, with a further event taking place in May the following year which attracted 650 dogs, breeds such as Russian and Irish Wolfhounds, Great Danes, Pomeranians and Irish Terriors being shown[2].
A show is also recorded as being held in the Middle Street Drill Hall in November 1904[3], this being incorrectly cited as the first dog show in the town by some sources.
