During the 19th and early years of the 20th century, goat (and dog) drawn carts were utilised to aid children in the skill and art of managing a horse-drawn cart. The numerous advertisements in the newspapers were testament to this practice, the goats frequently being referred to as 'docile', 'calm' and 'patient' in the aforementioned adverts.
