Ghost Sign

From Historical Hastings

A ghost sign is advertising paintwork that is often revealed when layers of paint are stripped from a building, normally to be painted over again. As such, they are frequently transient in nature, however some buildings have the advertising slogans preserved. In addition to the images of such signs below a further example - that of the 'Lavender Laundry' can be found in Athelstan Road[1], with undoubtedly more hidden behind multiple layers of paint.
