Frederick William Foster (1828-1895)

From Historical Hastings

Born circa 1828, Frederick William Foster was the last Head Teacher at Saunder's School between 1848[1] and 1870, after which Saunder's and Parker's schools combined to become the Hastings Grammar School. Prior to this he had been the Master at John Bank's Proprietary School for Boys in Hill Street for around seven years until the school failed and was wound up[2].

In 1851, he purchased 4 Belle View (located in Mill Field) from Charles Coleman[3].

Marrying Hannah Snelling the same year (1851)[4], by 1861 the couple and their then two children, were listed as residing at 1A Linton Terrade (possibly as lodgers - there appearing to be two Heads of Household at the same address)[5]. By 1871, the family were resident at 4 Mount Pleasant Crescent[6], at which time the couple had had six children. By 1881, he was recorded as living at Hill House, Hill Street, where he died on the 26th of January 1895[7][8].
