This windmill stood roughly in the location now occupied by Hastings Museum at John's Place. In quite close proximity was the Priory Mill which stood on the nearby Cuckoo Hill. John French is believed to have started his milling career at this mill around 1785, the mill itself having its earliest reference as being in existence in 1767[1]. It is believed the mill survived until around 1818, although Wilcock states the mill was gone by 1800.
Bob Wilcock in his book (The Windmills of Hastings and Environs) gives this mill the identification of 4/8.
