Constructed on the site of the White Rock Brewery the building was certainly between 1882[1] and 1905, utilised as a boarding house run by Miss Mackway by 1894; both this property and its neighbouring 40 White Rock being known as the "White Rock Boarding Establishment", offering such comforts as "hot and cold baths"[2]. Following the expiration of the tenancy for the property, there appears to have been an extensive re-fit of the facilities in January 1894, with most of the removable contents being placed up for auction [3].
Certainly by the year 1905, the millinery shop White & Norton had taken up the ground floor[4]. The shop premises are now occupied by the British Heart Foundation charity.
