2018 Bexhill Road murders
Craig Savage Double Murder Case
Background
On March 16, 2018, Craig Savage, a former soldier, murdered his estranged wife, Michelle Savage, and her mother, Heather Whitbread, at Heather Whitbread’s home on Bexhill Road, St Leonards, East Sussex. The attack occurred a month after Michelle Savage had ended their relationship and reported Savage's threats and stalking behavior to Sussex Police.[1][2].
The Attack
Armed with a stolen semi-automatic rifle, Savage shot both women at close range, also killing the dogs at the property. The violence took place in the house where Heather Whitbread lived[1][2].
Police Reports and Stalking Behavior
Michelle Savage had reported her estranged husband's threats and stalking behavior to Sussex Police a month before the attack. Despite her reports, Savage continued his threatening behavior, culminating in the assault on March 16[1][2].
Arrest and Sentencing
Following the attack, Savage was arrested on a beach behind the property. In spite of Savage claiming that he did not intend to commit the murders, he was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 38 years[1][2].
