Orpington to Hastings Walk

In 1968, a committee was formed by Beckenham District Youth Council, Central Bromley Council Of Youth, Hastings Youth Service, Orpington Youth Leader’s Council & Sidcup Charities Committee to raise money for the following organisations:- Beckenham & Penge:

• Penge Old People’s Welfare Committee
• Royal National Lifeboat Institution
• St. Christopher’s Hospice

Bromley

• Bromley Council of Social Services
• Mayor’s Fund for Bromley & Chislehurst
• National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children
• Shelter

Hastings

• Hastings Youth Trust

Orpington

• Orpington Churches Housing Association Ltd.
• Voluntary Services Overseas
• Citizens’ Advice Bureau

Sidcup

• Sidcup Charities Committee

The event consisted of a fifty mile walk between Orpington and Hastings over two days on the 12th/13th July 1968. The event was repeated in reverse the following year.
