John George Hickman (1839-1916)
A butcher who had the tenancy of Hole Farm. On the 30th of March 1893, he took possession of a house at 19 Tower Road West whilst still maintaining the farm until his death on the 13th of October 1916. He had two sons who inherited his estate, Alfred George Hickman of 14 Castle Street, Hastings, a butcher, and John Hickman of 10 Linton Road, Hastings, a salesman, and a son-in-law Joseph Parsons of Cumberland House, Laton Road, son of Frederick Parsons (1844-1900) who married his daughter Julia in 1900 (added by codicil, following the death of JG Hickman's wife Emily, on 7 June 1915)[1] and five daughters[2]
He regularly used one of the fields of Hole Farm, together with other land he owned at what is now The Oval, known as Hickman's Field for various events.
