Planned as part of the improvements by a funding organisation, Sea Change, to better road access to the town from the west in conjunction with Coombe Valley Way and the pre-existing Queensway, this road was a temporary measure to link the A259 to the A21 near the Sainsbury superstore on Sedlescombe Road North, also providing links to new business premises and the superstore. Original funding for the road amounted to £6 million, but with a number of legal challenges, this amount rose to over £12 million. In addition, by 2020 there was little sign of up-take in the business parks with a promised 865 jobs[1], the only businesses operating from the road being Emmaus, Sussex Waste Management, Hav-a-Skip 1066 and Rambler Coaches[2]

The road was intended to open in Spring of 2020, but was pushed back due to the need to re-locate a car-sales business (Bartlett's Seat) and the Covid 19 outbreak, with the eastern terminus of the road opening onto Junction Road as opposed to the, planned, Sedlescombe Road North. The road partially opened in 2019, with access being provided to Emmaus, a local charity's superstore in new premises on the business park[3].

A virtual council meeting was held on the 23rd of June 2020 to discuss the road, Councillor Godfrey Daniel claiming the road must be the longest saga of an uncompleted road in the world[4].
