Circus Parade

From Historical Hastings

When the circus arrived in the town, it was customary for the circus to stage a parade through the streets. The parade featured the live animals utilised in the circus display, perhaps the most noteworthy being the elephants which seem to feature almost exclusively in images of the parades. Many of the larger animals arrived in the town by train and were paraded through the streets to the circus ground (normally the Oval, Central Cricket Ground or at Bexhill Road by Glyne Gap.
